12th Annual Oregon Senior Open: May 13-15, 2022

The 2022 Oregon Senior Open will be held May 13-15 at the Portland Chess Center. The highest scoring Oregon resident qualifies for the Irwin National Tournament of Senior State Champions which will be held July 30 through August 2 in Rancho Mirage, California.

Eligibility: Open to all, including out-of-state residents, who will be at least 50 years old on July 30, 2022.

Format: 5-round Swiss in one section; choice between a 3-day or a 2-day schedule; up to 2 1/2 byes are available if requested before round one; Regular US Chess rated. 

Time Control: G/90; inc30. Round 1 of the 2-day schedule is played at G/30; inc30. Bring a digital clock.  

Schedule:

3-day:  Friday 6:30pm; Saturday 12:45pm. & 5:00pm.; Sunday 10:00am. and 2:45pm

2-day:  Saturday 10:00am then schedule merges with the 3-day. 

Prizes: $750 based on 30 entries. 1st-$175, free entry into next year’s Oregon Senior Open, and name engraved on the Dr. Ralph Hall memorial perpetual trophy, 2nd-$125, 1st U2000, 1st U1800, 1st U1600, 1st U1400/unrated-$75 each. Bonus prizes (only one bonus prize allowed): age 60 & over-$60; age 70 & over-$50; age 80 & over-$40.

Membership Requirements: US Chess. Oregon residents are required to be Oregon Chess Federation members (other states OK)

Covid Protocols: All players and spectators must be fully COVID vaccinated. Masks will be optional unless Oregon Health Authority, local regulations, or Lloyd Center policies change and masks become required. Everyone’s temperature will be taken each day. Anyone with a temperature of at least 100.4°F or is not feeling well will not be allowed to play and will have their entry fee refunded.

Entry Fee: $35 through May 11, $45 May 12-14.

If you do not wish to use the onlineregistration.cc website for advanced registration, you can also register by email to [email protected]. If you register by email, please submit your entry fee by check payable to Oregon Chess Federation and sent to Mike Morris, 2344 NE 27th Ave., Portland, OR 97212.  Entries received after May 11 or at site must pay $45.  We will accept walk-in entries the day of the tournament on Friday night (3-day schedule) or Saturday morning (2-day schedule), paying by check or cash – credit cards and PayPal will NOT be accepted for walk-in entries.
